Delmar Bloem

National impact on concrete and aggregate topics, building codes, and operation of ready mixed concrete production plants certification program

He started his career working for the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company for two years. Bloem then joined the National Sand and Gravel Association (NSGA) staff and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA).  While serving in these positions, he also worked as an associate research engineer with the University of Maryland. Bloem was made director of both the NSGA and NRMCA.

Bloem served on over 40 committees and subcommittees and has received many awards. His dedication to civil engineering earned him an award of merit from the American Society of Testing and Materials. He was a prolific writer and published many works.

The American Concrete Institute renamed their distinguished award to honor service in engineering to the “Delmar L. Bloem Distinguished Service Award” in memory of him.
