Research Objective: Van Diest Supply Company produces wash waters from pesticide storage and transportation. This is presently treated in a very expensive physical chemical treatment process. The expectation, based on earlier research by the PI at ISU, is that an activated sludge process integrated with ozonation within the process will be able to break down pesticides to simpler compounds which are in turn biodegraded or at least removed by biosorption. The effluent could still be treated with activated carbon as is the case now as a backup.
