Synthesis Study: Effectiveness of Safety Corridor Programs

Research Objective: Safety Corridor Programs have been initiated and successfully implemented in several states in an effort to reduce crashes and improve safety in specific roadway sections that exhibit undesirable safety performance. CTRE at Iowa State University has teamed with the University of Missouri-Columbia to conduct a synthesis study of safety corridor programs. The research will apply selected best practices identified from the synthesis study to a selected route in Iowa and analyze the effectiveness of those measures on improving safety.
