Dead Week

Dead Week - Yeah right....I don't know about everyone else on Iowa State campus, but Dead Week is NEVER DEAD!!!!   I wish it were though.  Dead week is considered the week before finals week.  You are suppose to have no meetings with clubs or organizations, no tests and a few other details....However, this is the perfect opportunity for everyone to schedule end of semester gatherings, Christmas parties, projects/papers due and more!

Speaking of gatherings, just tonight we had our end of the semester Peer Mentor dinner at Legends restaurant.  If you don't know what I'm talking about it's the only restaurant in Ames that is in the air - on the 7th floor of a building.  From the restaurant you can see across campus and a good portion of Ames - it's pretty neat.  Plus last week for the Student Alumni Leadership Council we had our Fall Banquet with the theme being Ugly Holiday Sweater.  It was quite interesting to see everyone dress up for the occasion!  Now this week Friday we are having our planning meeting with the new and old peer mentors for the ConE Learning Community to brain storm and start planning the spring 2009 semester of Learning Community.  There will be a lot of new things we are going to try out so should be a lot of fun for all of the students!

As you can see it's about 5 AM and I'm still up working on Homework - part of it due to procrastination and part of it due to the work load I have on me right now.  With everything going on this semester it's hard to always do things the way you want to.  I have learned over the past 4 years that you need time for yourself in college no matter what and therefore I have done that.  This semester I have stuck to the no homework or school related projects after Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.  This way I am giving myself 2 solid days of time for me, friends and family! This evening I am working on a 20-40 minute presentation I have to give tomorrow along with a 3000-5000 word paper.  Now don't be scared - this is for a graduate class!!! - darn higher degrees....just kidding!  It's a great class and I'm expanding my knowledge in the industry.

But all-in-all classes are winding down and I'm getting excited for semester break.  I'm going home for a few days, then to my boyfriend's place with for his family's Christmas, then on a ski trip to Minnesota and then on a 5 day Western Carribean Cruise!!!!  Yay for the sun - and right before the Spring semester starts! Back to work!
