Twin Cities Marathon: 2008 Style

So once again, this year I went home for the Twin Cities Marathon which my Dad runs.  But, there was an added bonus, my brother and his wife came home for this weekend and my brother ran the marathon as well.  On Friday, I left to go home at around 5 pm and I got home close to about 9 pm.  I was greeted by all and it felt great to have the entire family together again, even if it was only for a little while.  I love being home; the smells, the comfort, the family, they make everything seem so much better and make things a little easier, and this was only for one day!  Anyways, that Friday night I decided to stay up late and work on senior design so I wouldn’t have to work on as much on Saturday.  I actually got a ton done on Friday night; I worked on how to construct on expansive clays, how to obtain strength parameters from soil borings, what additional tests need to be done on the soils, and much more.  I was up until 2 am working on that when I decided to take a short break and watch TV for about a half hour.  Well, the next thing I knew, my Mom woke me up and told me it was 5:30 and that I should go to bed.  I guess that was the end of that night.

Saturday came and went, way too fast of course, and we just kind of did little odds and ends.  For example, we were outside for a good hour and a half or so shooting targets with a very low power BB-gun and having a competition of who could get their shots closest to the target (I’m pretty sure I won).

Sunday was the day of the marathon and of course the skies had to open up on all of the runners.  Everyone was soaked including us spectators but luckily it stopped raining when my Dad and brother got to mile 16 we were able to dry off a little bit.  Both of them finished with amazing times and before I knew it I was driving back here to Ames.  I still had a lot of stuff to finish so when I got back I sat myself back in Town engineering for the rest of the evening.  This week is going to be really busy since I have a large Senior Design Review due next Monday along with other homework and miscellaneous tasks.  I’m looking forward to tomorrow because I will hopefully get to sit down with Dr. White and go over some of the geotechnical problems I haven’t been able to work out.  If I get most of them figured out I should be able to continue design of the foundations.
