Start of the Semester. . .Kind of
Well I guess we are well on our way into another semester; I can’t believe that the sixth week of classes is starting tomorrow. So far it has gone by way too fast and I haven’t even had a chance to write until now. This semester is pretty packed with senior design, advanced structural analysis, highway design, reinforced concrete design, and environmental engineering. These classes have kept me incredibly busy so far with staying up late into the evening on many occasions. But luckily for me, I enjoy all of my classes, even with all of the late nights. I think senior design is probably my favorite so far in the fact that I get to apply a lot of my knowledge that I have gained over the past three years. I am the geotechnical person for my group and because I took foundations engineering last spring semester I know what is going on for the most part (or at least I think so). Being able to look through old notes and find what is needed to design a foundation system for a 190,000 square foot office building and adjacent parking garage is a lot of work, but a lot of fun at the same time. The key is being able to find time to work on it along with homework and studying for all of the other classes as well.
It may sound like I am swamped with classes all of the time and it’s true, but I always manage to have fun in the process. Sure, staying up until 3am doesn’t sound like fun, but when you’re surrounded by your friends who are also staying up until 3 and working on stuff, it is a blast. You would be surprised at how the smallest things at 1 in the morning turn into the funniest things you have ever heard. So hopefully through the little things, this semester won’t be just me, my homework, and many long hours; heck, I might even be able to have some fun. . .
