AGC Team Finishes in Top 10 at National Competition

Ames, Iowa -- The residential construction team from Iowa State University's Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) student chapter competed last week in the Residential Construction Competition at the National Association of Home Builder's International Builders' Show in Orlando, Florida. The team placed 10th out of 30 teams. They also were named the national competition’s "Rookie of the Year."

“This was our first national residential student competition and our team performed very well,” says Larry Cormicle, senior lecturer in construction engineering and the AGC student group's faculty adviser. “Five of the six construction engineering students on the residential team will return next year, so they should be very strong as they improve over this year’s performance.”

During the competition, students develop a management proposal for a real-life residential construction project. The proposal is required to contain an estimate, project schedule, cash flow forecast, and other essential elements to the proposal. The students then present and defend their proposal to a group of construction company executives who act as judges.

The residential team members include Tyler Millard (team captain), Jessica Meredith, Chris Daniels, Tim Corcoran, Blake Pratt, and Mike Pokorney.

The team earned their spot at the national competition after winning first place in last fall's Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region IV Competition in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
