For the third consecutive year, the Iowa State University student chapter of the Associated Contractors (AGC) of America has been named the Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year. The AGC student chapter is a student organization for individuals interested in construction engineering. The Iowa State student chapter organizes educational, social, and community service activities for their students to participate in each year.
In the past year, Iowa State AGC members have participated in numerous community service activities, such as helping to rebuild houses destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi; assisting with Habitat for Humanity, Friendship Ark Homes, and Relay for Life in Ames; and collecting items for Toys for Tots. The group also engaged in professional activities by hosting industry speakers at its monthly meetings, going on several jobsite tours, and attending an OSHA training.
The Outstanding Student Chapter award includes a $1,500 prize. The award was presented to the group in late September at AGC’s Construction Education Committee meeting in Philadelphia.
