James Cable, associate professor of transportation engineering, received the Iowa Concrete Paving Association’s Outstanding Achievement Award for enthusiasm, dedication to quality, ingenuity, and cooperative spirit.
Halil Ceylan, assistant professor in geotechnical and materials engineering, was presented with second place for the Best Paper Award for Novel Smart Engineering System Design at the International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks in Engineering (ANNIE) on November 5-8, 2005, in St. Louis, Missouri.
The paper’s title was “Use of Neural Networks to Develop Robust Backcalculation Algorithms for Nondestructive Evaluation of Flexible Pavement Systems.”
It was based on results from the project on Nondestructive Evaluation of Pavement Systems sponsored by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The paper was co-authored by PhD students M. Birkan Bayrak and Alper Guclu.
Larry Cormicle, Reginald Souleyrette, and Brad Perkins received the Engineering Student Council Leadership Award.
LaDon Jones, lecturer, is the 2006 Joseph C. & Elizabeth A. Anderlik Faculty Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching winner.
Bob Steffes, PCC research engineer, received a CYtation Award for his work designing the concrete and geotechnical mobile labs.
Kejin Wang, assistant professor in geotechnical and materials engineering, is the 2006 Charles W. Schafer Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Service winner.
