ASCE Update, Spring 2006

Some of our outreach activities this semester included Engineering Day at the Mall, Fellowes Science Night, and presentations to middle school and high school on West Point Bridge Designer Software.
Conference and Steel Bridge
The chapter sent down three members to the ASCE Zone III Leadership Conference, which was held in Houston, Texas.
Twenty-five members attended the annual Midwest Regional Conference held at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in March 2006. The steel bridge competition was held in conjunction with the conference.
Though the steel bridge team built a great bridge this year, the team placed fourth (out of nine) and did not advance to the national competition.
Spring Break
Because of federal budget cuts and the elimination of volunteer sheltering, our spring break reconstruction trip to New Orleans was cancelled only days before we were supposed to leave.
The chapter will look into taking a group of members again in the future when the area is more stable. Thanks to the Iowa Section of ASCE for all its support!
