ASC Nationals, Spring 2006

By Larry Cormicle, ASC coach

Iowa State design/build and heavy highway teams competed at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) / Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America National Student Competition held in Irving, Texas, on April 5–7, 2006.

Neither team placed in the top three but performed very well. The judges commented that only a few percentage points separated each team.

Projects

The design/build team responded to a mock request for proposals for a $7.1 million Larimer County Office Building located in Loveland, Colorado.

Along with their 35-page proposal, the team produced eight architectural design computer drawings and built a scale model of the building.

The heavy highway team responded to a mock request for proposals for a $2.9 million Eisenhower Drive Roadway Expansion and Drainage Project in La Quinta, California. The project consisted of widening a highway along a golf course with very tight site and scheduling constraints.
