Fall 2004 Faculty and Staff Awards

We’ve had an award-winning year. Here are some of the awards and honors our faculty and staff received in the past few months:

Ken Brewer, emeritus professor, received the Iowa Section Award at the 2003 Awards Banquet for the Iowa Section ASCE. This is the highest award given to an individual by the Iowa Section of ASCE and is awarded only once every three years.

Jerry Chase, emeritus professor, was nominated for The Tribune's 2004 Unsung Heroes award for his work with the Habitat for Humanity organization. He’s been volunteering since it formed in 1996, the same year he retired as an associate professor of construction engineering at Iowa State University.

Tim Ellis, associate professor, was issued a patent for his Static Granular Bed Reactor.

Lowell Greimann, professor and chair, was awarded the Iowa State University Alumni Association Award for Superior Service to Alumni.

LaDon Jones, lecturer, was awarded the Outstanding Professor in Civil Engineering award as the result of a student vote.

Donna Lutz, assistant scientist, received the Professional and Scientific Excellence Award for her work as project director with the Des Moines Water Quality Network Monitoring Program.

Ted Millen, academic adviser, was awarded the 2003–04 Advisor of the Year by the Sports Club Council.

Say Kee Ong, associate professor, was awarded the Iowa State University Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching, for his integrative and interdisciplinary approach to teach environmental engineering.

Shihwu Sung, associate professor, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant. He will be researching the application of molecular biology in bioenergy production from renewable organic wastes at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, from January to July 2005.

Marlee Walton was elected associate director of the Iowa Section. She was also honored with the Joseph and Elizabeth Anderlik Faculty Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching and an Outstanding Faculty Award from the Interfraternity Council.
