Chi Epsilon (XE) has been busy this year with service projects and fundraisers. We are also excited to be welcoming 11 new initiates this fall. Events this year have included a golf tournament, Adopt-A-Highway, and the Chi Epsilon study sessions.
Chi Epsilon hosted the first annual golf outing on September 27, 2004. This fundraiser was designed to allow students to network with faculty and local engineers to gain some insight into the profession. Several local businesses sponsored the event, including Fox Engineering, McClure Engineering, CTRE, and GSI, Inc. The weather cooperated perfectly for the twelve participants. The money raised from this event will be used for the XE scholarship. We hope that this event can become a Chi Epsilon tradition.
The new fall 2004 initiates joined current members of Chi Epsilon for the fall Adopt-A-Highway day on October 23. Every spring and fall, Chi Epsilon helps clean up a two-mile stretch of Highway 30 east of Nevada. This year, 21 students participated. Afterwards, Chi Epsilon welcomed the new initiates by celebrating at Pizza Hut.
This year, Chi Epsilon decided to modify the traditional help room provided once a week for CCEE students. To emphasize the room as open to anyone and not just those with specific questions, the name has been changed to the Chi Epsilon Study Session. The meeting room has also been changed to Town Engineering 178. Attendance this year has improved as more students meet to study in a group environment.
Finally, Chi Epsilon will be welcoming 11 new members this fall. To join Chi Epsilon, initiates must be in the top third of their class. In December, they will attend an initiation night to learn about the history of Chi Epsilon Honor Society and its four pillars of scholarship, character, practicality, and sociability.
