The Associate General Contractors (AGC) Chapter is very active again this year as we participate in numerous activities and sponsor events. Last year, the chapter was extremely successful and received second place in the national chapter of the year contest put on by the AGC of America. In efforts to attain the first place award, AGC is busy with high school outreach events, community service activities, and social activities.

Highlighting the high school outreach events has been the involvement with the College of Engineering by promoting construction engineering through activities at Science Bound events, senior visitation days, and legacy days.

The community service activities began in the first week of classes when four members spent a Friday afternoon tearing off three layers of shingles and putting down a new layer for a lady in the Beyond Welfare program.

On Halloween the chapter set up a room as a part of the Society of Women Engineers Haunted Village for kids two to twelve years old. Here the kids were able to make candy houses and have their pictures taken "flying a steel beam" into place. In November, the chapter will be collecting canned goods for a local food pantry and removing split rail and cable fencing from local parks with the help of PCI's skid steer loader.

Social activities this year have been made up of an Friday after class (FAC) monthly meetings, a fall campout, tailgates, field trips to Ames Middle School, ISU Chilled Water Facility, the Masonry Institute of Iowa, and the Iowa Events Center. The tailgates were sponsored by AGC of Iowa and Master Builders of Iowa as they are the sponsoring chapters for the student chapter.

Members have also participated in the various AGC of Iowa events, the Associated Schools of Construction Student Competition, and OSHA 10 hour training. Be looking for AGC members in the area as the new clothing designs come out for 2004 and active members receive their pins.
