Iowa State's CCEE department shares a close working relationship with the Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE). CTRE is an umbrella for a diverse group of transportation-related centers and programs committed to technology transfer and encouraging interdisciplinary research.

Many students have graduate assistantships at CTRE, and some CCEE faculty and staff hold appointments in both CCEE and CTRE.

Iowa State, through CTRE, is also the lead institution for the Midwest Transportation Consortium (MTC). The MTC supports several opportunities for students in transportation, including

  • scholarships
  • conferences
  • seminars with professionals from around the country
  • a trip to the Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. and other national and regional conferences

You’ll also develop close relationships with professors and other students. At CTRE, people interact on a daily basis while working together on projects, getting coffee in the break room, or playing sports on the weekends.

Working at CTRE makes it easy to ask a professor a question about an assignment or get advice about the next step in a research project and career. You’ll also be exposed to many different aspects of transportation research through the diverse centers and programs CTRE houses.
