Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

1. We have a history of excellence in leading geotechnical research in soils mechanics, foundation/pavement engineering, and pavement materials areas. Engineering greats such as Anson Marston, Merlin Spangler, Donald Davidson, and Richard Handy were all part of the geotechnical engineering program at Iowa State University.
2. We have an active research program with 40 current projects and more than $3.5 million in funding for the past three years. Sponsors include the Federal Highway Administration, the National Science Foundation, the Portland Cement Association, the Iowa Department of Transportation, other state departments of transportation, and industry.
3. Our research projects cover both theoretical and applied concepts, which help you find jobs whether you plan to work as a consultant or continue as an academic. You’ll gain hands-on, practical experience in the lab and in the field.

Iowa State is the home of the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center), which will be fulfilling the Long Term Plan for Concrete Pavement Research and Technology developed by Iowa State staff.
