Guide the student in the development of an academic program that meets his or her educational objectives, as well as the requirements of the curriculum.
Assist in the development of an academic program that meets students’ career objectives as well as curriculum requirements. Advisors can help students achieve their academic objectives by advising them about course requirements, recommended electives, and procedures for registration and schedule changes.
Be available to consult with advisees during the advising/registration period, to assist the student in monitoring the accuracy of the advisement/degree audit, and to notify the CE Academic Advisor if corrections are required.
Be informed about a student’s progress by receiving copies of midterm and final grades and copies of all correspondence to the student from the University.
Meet at least once each semester with the student to discuss the student’s progress and to plan the schedule for the next semester.
Counsel students on both personal and professional development.
Encourage students to obtain industry experience during the summer and participate in extracurricular activities while at the University.
Schedule an appointment with your advisor when you begin your program and at least once each semester to review your objectives and academic plan for the following semesters.
Learn the degree requirements of the curriculum, plan for course schedules to meet those requirements, and monitor the accuracy of the advisement/degree audit.
Know the University policies and procedures with respect to registration and schedule changes and carry out those procedures within the required time frame.
Be responsible for the accuracy of your schedule, including schedule adjustments (e.g. adds, drops, section changes).
Prepare and review with your advisor petitions that are required for transfer credits or other adjustments in the degree program.
Maintain a personal file of grades, degree audits, petitions, and related academic records.
Check your e-mail frequently, at least twice a week, for additional information from your advisor or the department
